What the press are saying about Combustion...
"Too good to remain a cult concern"
“Breathtaking... Combustion is a great album, and I’d bet the band are even better live.”
“Destined to be popular...
this has that special something you've been missing for far too long"
“An album of immense quality...
'Tear Down The Sky' is one of the best blues songs that will be released this year”
“A most enjoyable release, from the fleet-fingered opening salvo to the album's masterpiece - Tear Down The Sky ”
BLUES IN THE NORTH WEST
“The lapel-grabbing Blues Rock of Russ Tippins trio can even make a wet club night in Luton feel like an event, and this second album catches most of the electricity. It boasts 11 cracking originals, of which Too Cool To Sweat is the pick. Tippins is the key: a frontman whose mix-slicing voice, TNT fretwork & luxurious hair is too good to remain a cult concern.”

review... 09/11/12 (a little write-up of our recent Cheltenham Tubby Blues show by Otis Mack)
"Hi folks thanks to everybody who turned up for the Tubby’s Show on Friday 2.11.12. What a Show it turned out to be too. It was kicked off by Rhythm Zoo sporting their new line up & some interesting covers on songs not featured by many other bands but it was the hardy chestnuts of ‘Mojo Working’ and ‘Sweet Home Chicago’ that really got the crowd responding with Andi Jones' sexy pouts drawing responses from the tongue hanging male punters.
It set the evening up nicely for Russ Tippins Electric Band. Russ had brought his own sound man Ray in to control the set up and what a good job he did too. They were absolutely on fire. Russ is not only one of the very best guitar players in the UK but he is also blessed with a magnificent singing voice enabling him to produce high notes, reminiscent of the yesteryear Robert Plant, with ease. He does this whilst simultaneously playing lead guitar riffs of ear tingling perfection and magnificent string vibrato. John Dawson on Bass is a master musician in his own right and complements the guitar work of Russ with superlative bass varying from the simple one note driving tones to the fastest finger work on the circuit. He is also blessed with a natural stage presence exuding his joy at playing. Ian Halford on drums must be one of the fittest men on the tour. His drumming is delivered at a constant high energy sapping level lifting and lowering the crescendos in perfect match to Russ and John’s guitar work. He has that Jon Bonham ability to make the drums sound like they are singing the tune.I cannot speak too highly of this truly talented band who should be up there with the very best in the business. I would back them to hold their own with any band anywhere."
Thanks to Christine Lerman for this pic from our gig at Colne Great British R&B Festival last weekend. This is a HUGE event, made some excellent new contacts. But just so we stay grounded, our next gig is at... the Golden fleece!
Mission accomplished at Maryport. Two shows packed with folks who've never seen the band before but wouldn't let us go! And quite a few bought our CD. What more can a band ask for?
Many thanks to Amsterdam Music Promoters, Apeldoorn Bluescafe, and the Backstage Hotel Amsterdam for making us feel so welcome on our Dutch mini-tour. What a trip! We'll be back soon...

WE'VE CREATED A MONSTER!
MONSTERS OF ROCK (Ronington)
On behalf of Sue, Marc, Amy, and myself, I'd like to say a big thank you to the following:
Our tireless production team Les Routledge, Ray Macdonald, Magic Marty, Liam Ward, Paul & Matty Knight and Shorty, who all put in a full 12 hour shift.
Everyone who generously donated raffle prizes, some of the stuff on offer was just amazing, no wonder the tickets ran out! Not forgetting our wonderful sales girls, Valerie Brown, Val Tippins, Morag Knight, & Margaret Reed
The Rock-hungry hordes who bought their tickets and came from afar on pink coaches. To have that Hall packed out at 3pm brought a lump to my throat, and turned this event into a real rip-roaring party. There was such a genuine vibe of good will in the air.
This, more than the money raised, was the most important thing.
And speaking of money, would just like to mention Paul Watson and the Civic Hall team, who provided this bona-fide professional venue, complete with sound system for a fee of £0.00 and took 0% commission on all the tickets they sold.
And finally the bands themselves. To put aside a Saturday night is pretty special, but not ONE of them would accept even fuel expenses for the trip. Without exception they exemplified the spirit of this event and put on one hell of a show!
Guards Of Eden, The Silence, Big River, The Last Fakers, Presence, The Karma Heart, The Force, Sabbatica, Black Rose, and of course my own guys John Dawson & Ian Halford.
Thank You All.
We are honoured to be part of a TEN band all-day Rock concert at Shildon Civic Hall next February in aid of cancer research. This has some personal meaning for us as we lost a good friend and follower - Ronnie Patchett - to cancer last year. The concert will fall on the first anniversary of his passing and all proceeds will go to The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
* All advance tickets now sold out. On the day there will be a limited amount available at the door on a "first come first served" basis, so please get there no later than 3.30 to be sure of getting in.
We've been invited to play the main stage at
Hebden Blues Festival 2012, Hebden Bridge,
W. Yorkshire on Sunday 3rd June. Can't wait!
Check out the latest video - recorded in Nottingham during our little tour last month. We love it!
Many thanks to Robert Balmer and Adrien Perrie.
